According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, local Colorado officials decided to close Interstate 70 this past Monday March 4, near the popular ski area Vail, after wintry weather conditions caused a 30-car accident.
Blizzard-like conditions in the area prompted the closure, which shut down an eastbound section of I-70 beginning around 1:30 p.m. this past Monday. Snow showers, below freezing temperatures and wind chills all contributed to the shutdown. The highway was reopened by 7 p.m. Monday.
Details regarding the 30-car crash remain unclear, though it does not appear that any of the drivers and passengers involved in the auto accident suffered serious personal injuries. The auto crash appears to have been caused by slick roadways in heavy traffic, resulting in the high number of cars involved in the incident.
