30 year-old Michael Prendergast of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, may have been intoxicated when he caused a four-car accident on Route 206 on May 17th that shut down traffic on the state road for several hours.
Prendergast was traveling southbound on Route 206 in New Jersey that morning, when he drove into the rear of a stopped car, which was waiting to make a left turn onto Deerfield Place. That car was pushed into the northbound lane, colliding with two other cars.
The passengers of all of the involved vehicles were injured and taken to local hospitals’ emergency rooms. The extent pf the drivers’ and passengers’ personal injuries remains undisclosed.
According to New Jersey State Troopers, Prendergast willingly allowed police officers to search his vehicle at the scene of the car accident. Inside Prendergast’s car, the police allegedly found marijuana, methamphetamines and a hypodermic needle. Whether Prendergast had used drugs that morning prior to the auto accident is unknown at this time.
Prendergast was arrested at the site of the auto crash and now awaits his court appearance.
