Early last Sunday morning, Deputy George Engren of the Lee County, Florida Sheriff’s department crashed into another car at an intersection in Fort Myers, Florida after the other driver allegedly failed to yield to the Deputy’s car. The driver of the other car, 63 year-old Nicholas Marciano, his 12 year-old son, Justin Marciano, and Deputy Engren were all taken to the hospital for treatment of minor personal injuries.
According to the police report, Engren was responding to an emergency in a marked police car at the time of the auto crash. He came to a complete stop at the intersection, then turned on his lights and sirens, and drove through the intersection. Marciano also drove through the intersection at that time and Engren struck the driver’s side of Marciano’s car with such force that it spun the car around, causing it to hit Engren’s car.
Marciano was given a ticket for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
