One man died and two others suffered personal injuries in a six-car pileup that took place this past Thursday, October 3, 2013 in Hillsboro, Oregon.
On Thursday afternoon, a driver of a pickup truck crashed into a minivan at the intersection of Cornell Road and 48th avenue in Hillsboro. The pickup truck had driven through a red light and “t-boned” the minivan. Four other cars then crashed into the two vehicles, creating a mangled wreck of plastic and metal. The occupants of the minivan emerged from the vehicle and began to help drivers and passengers to get out of the cars.
Witnesses reported that the pickup driver slumped onto the steering wheel and the truck accelerated through a red light moments before the crash. One of the minivan passengers, Lawrence Payne, stated that she checked the man’s pulse and that he had a pulse shortly after the auto crash. The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the auto accident. The Hillsboro police report that the driver died from pre-existing medical issues, and not from the car accident.
Two individuals sustained minor personal injuries in the auto accident. Hillsboro police are continuing to investigate.
